Chattogram, 23 April 2026: Following the recognition of International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers, Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic Institute is expected to inaugurate its maiden Long Hydrographic Course ‘Category A Programme’ on 13 May 2026. This course of 44 week duration marks an important milestone in Bangladesh’s pursuit of excellence in Hydrographic Education.
In line with IHO S-5A syllabus, this ‘Category A Hydrographic Course’ is the highest level of internationally recognized training in hydrography. It prepares the hydrographic professionals in complex survey planning/ execution, hydrographic decision-making and various trouble-shooting. By being able to conduct hydrographic surveying with desired accuracy, the course participants are expected to contribute to safe & efficient navigation, sustainable use of the oceanic resources and environmental protection. On successful completion of this course, the course participants will receive certificates of both internationally recognized ‘Category A Hydrographic Course’ and ‘MSc in Hydrography’ from Bangladesh Maritime University.
Participants from Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Inland Water transportation Authority, various Port Authorities and friendly foreign countries are expected to participate in this course. The participation from various maritime stakeholders and regional countries are likely to provide the ideal opportunity to share their versatile experience, making the course truly meaningful. Thus, BN Hydrographic Institute is expected to become a Centre of Professional Excellence, committed to regional hydrographic capacity development for sustainable maritime development.
